A Site-specific Project Through Light and Winter and Country Music?

Hosted by LPAC | Friday & Saturday, February 14–15 | 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM

I’m creating a projection-mapped light installation called SnöGlöShimmerShoirée on two buildings in downtown Laramie, Wyoming, commissioned by the Laramie Public Art Coalition. It’ll be shown alongside many public events including a musical showcase from Western AF.

High above the Buckhorn Bar and Johnson’s Hotel during Laramie’s Winterfest, glowing, half-feral figures—part punk, part alien, part animal—drift through fragmented, dreamlike scenes. They might be visitors, or perhaps they’ve always been here, waiting in the wings. Like the ephemeral lures of contemporary media, their silhouettes come and go in flashes, filtered through blinds, drifting snow, and bursts of insect-wing patterns. We chase bright messages that promise everything yet leave us wanting more.

Light, by its nature, refuses to be contained. It disrupts the ordinary and transforms it into something both ominous and exalted. Does this vision illuminate hidden truths or conceal the cracks in our collective consciousness? Winter itself intensifies this question. The season strips away our comfort yet blankets us in frost and ice—a chilling reminder that creation and destruction can share the same breath.

What do you see when you look up? How do you navigate that charged space between what is fleeting and what endures? If you sense the outlines of something bigger, do you grasp at it or let it move through you?
